Synopsis

The Great Society is the second of the two LBJ plays and chronicles LBJ’s second tumultuous term, from November 1964 to March 1968, when he shocked the country by announcing on television that he would not run for re-election. Originally commissioned by the Seattle Rep, The Great Society began its rolling world premier opening first at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival on July 27th, 2014 where it played to 100% capacity. The second production opened in Seattle at the Rep on December 10, 2014, where – for the first time anywhere – it ran in rotating rep with ALL THE WAY until January 4, 2015. Both plays set numerous box office records for the Seattle Repertory Theater.

It then opened on Broadway for a limited run at the Vivienne Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center on October 1, 2020, with Brian Cox as LBJ.
