Dear Exchange friend,
I hope that you are doing well and staying warm in this cold, snowy new year.
I am writing to let you know about an exciting upcoming event – America at the Turning Point: Conversations on All the Way. Back in 2010 and 2011, Robert Schenkkan was a playwright-in-residence at the Orchard Project. The product of his residency with us, the play ALL THE WAY, will be opening on Broadway in the next few weeks. Starring three-time Emmy winner Bryan Cranston, the play follows the first year of the LBJ administration and the passage of the Civil Rights Act. It is a wonderful, bold exploration into power and politics at a pivotal point in American history.
We could not be more excited about the production, and in concert with the producers, we are presenting a set of panels and conversations on February 23. The event is a one-of-a kind complement to this major production, examining the complex life and legacy of President Johnson, the events and echoes of the Civil Rights movement, the issues inherent in the dramatist’s adaptation of life into art, and the indelible impact the events of 1964 had on American history. Panelists include noted historian Doris Kerns Goodwin, Civil Rights activist Bob Moses, actor Bryan Cranston, playwright Robert Schenkkan, and many more.
Seating for the event is limited, and we want to give you the opportunity to get tickets before this news goes to the general public. Tickets for the event are available at http://www.exchangenyc.org/alltheway and additional information on the play and the event is attached below. We hope to see you there, and please let me know if you have any questions.
As someone who has exhibited interest in our work, and thus this play in its earliest form, we hope you will join us.
All best wishes and many thanks,
Ari
