Broadway's The Great Society to Launch Voter Registration Drives

Broadway's The Great Society will launch voter registration drives at the Vivian Beaumont Theater throughout September and October. Drives will take place September 18 (4-4:30pm; 7-8pm); September 21 (5-5:30pm; 7-8pm); September 25 (4-4:30pm; 7-8pm); October 9 (4-4:30pm; 6-7pm); and October 16 (4-4:30pm; 6-7pm). Elizabeth Warren has been winning the primary election every night at this Broadway theater

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts will face off against nine other presidential hopefuls in Texas tonight for the latest round of Democratic debates, but she’s already won the primaries several times this week in old Manhattan. The Great Society, a new play from Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Schenkkan about the tumultuous final years of Lyndon B. Johnson’s presidency, began previews last week at Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center. One of the gimmicks of the presentation is a faux election set up in the lobby, where guests are asked to step into a voting booth and vote for their 2020 Democratic or Republican presidential candidate of choice. THE GREAT SOCIETY Announces Lottery Policy

THE GREAT SOCIETY has partnered with TodayTix to offer $35 mobile rush tickets beginning at 9am each performance day. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis exclusively through the TodayTix app. THE GREAT SOCIETY is currently in preview performances and will officially open on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65th St). The Great Society, Sequel to Tony-Winning All the Way, Arrives on Broadway

The Great Society, the sequel to Robert Schenkkan's 2014 Tony-winning epic All the Way, begins its Broadway run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on September 6. Bill Rauch, who helmed All the Way, also directs the new work, slated to officially open on October 1 for a limited run through November 30. Brian Cox stars in the production as President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

Capturing Johnson's passionate and aggressive attempts to build a great society for all, the new play follows his epic triumph in a landslide election to the agonizing decision not to run for re-election just three years later. It was an era that would define history forever: the rise of the Civil Rights Movement, the deaths of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. The Great Society Begins Broadway Performances September 6

The second play in Robert Schenkkan’s dramatic take on President Lyndon Baines Johnson, The Great Society, begins preview performances September 6 at Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theater ahead of an official opening October 1.

Schenkkan’s All The Way bowed on Broadway in 2014, winning the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Actor in a Play for star Bryan CranstonThe Great Society stars Brian Cox (Succession) as LBJ and picks up where All The Way left off—with Johnson’s Presidential campaign in 1964. LBJ on the Great White Way... again! The Broadway premiere of The Great Society begins previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theater tonight, ahead of an official opening on October 1 and a limited engagement through November 30, 2019.

Written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Robert Schenkkan as Part II of the LBJ Plays, following the success of his Tony Award-winning "Best Play" All the Way, which starred Bryan Cranston in a 2014 Tony Award-winning performance, The Great Society is directed by Bill Rauch. Broadway Fall 2019 Preview - The Plays

As the Broadway season shifts up a gear and we head gleefully into the autumn, the emphasis seems to be on new plays in the coming months. The play I have been looking forward to all year starts previews September 6th. The Great Society is the sequel to Robert Schenkkan’s All the Way. The show picks up after President Lyndon B. Johnson landslide victory in the 1964 election, exploring his full four-year term against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement. Brian Cox, stars as well as Tony nominee Marc Kudisch as Richard J. Daley, Grantham Coleman making his Broadway debut as Martin Luther King Jr., Richard Thomas as Hubert Humphrey, Barbara Garrick as Ladybird Johnson, Bryce Pinkham as Robert Kennedy and David Garrison as Richard Nixon. See The Great Society Celebrate Lyndon B. Johnson’s Birthday with the NAACP, FairVote, Motivote, and NYC Votes

In honor of President Lyndon B. Johnson's birthday August 27, The NAACP, Fairvote, Motivote, and NYC Votes joined The Great Societyto launch The Great Society Primary, its initiative to register audience members to vote. In a ceremony at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, playwright Robert Schennkan and members of the cast welcomed the civic partners to inaugurate the show’s lobby display and voting program. At each performance, audience members will have the opportunity to "vote" for the candidate they would like to see win the 2020 presidential election. Additionally, before select performances, representatives from the voter registration organizations will be available to register new voters in the lobby. To read more, click here.
